Ironweed

Ironweed

There has got to be something in the water.  That's the only way to explain the high levels of consistantly excellent sludgy, riff heavy, low end friendly rock bands to come oozing out of Albany, New York.  Nestled in a little snow covered valley, cut off from the rest of the state by the Adirondack mountains Albany has been pumping out band after band and album after album of bone rattling rock to make Seattle in the 90's look like your grandma's Perry Como collection.  And it's the State capitol too boot.  It's got to be the water.  It's the only explanation.

Born from the ashes of the critically-acclaimed Greatdayforup, Ironweed is a veritable supergroup of local Albany area veterans.  Bands who have for the past decade have been chipping away at the bloated underbelly of corporate rock.  With the demise of GDFU the core group of Mike Vitali (Guitar), Brendan Slater (Bass), & Jim Feck (Drums) began the ardous task of putting a band back together.  Turns out it wasn't that hard.  With the concurrent demised of another Albany favorite, Held Under, Mike & the boys were able to add the exceptional vocal chords of Jeff Andrews.  With that line-up we might have ended up with GDFU mark 2 but Jeff had another idea.  Luring in the considerable skills and second guitar of Ryan Rapp (Endicott) filled out the Ironweed sound and has added a whole new dimension to the sludgy rock that these Upsate New Yorkers make.  Since 2007, Ironweed has earned themselves nationwide recognition on the metal/ stoner rock circuit tearing up stages both big and small. Their much anticipated Small Stone debut, "Indian Ladder", shows a band at the peak of their game.  The hooks are big, the riffs are bigger, and the songs show a level of connection it takes most new bands years to achieve.

With the albums ready to ship and a U.S. tour in the works, Ironweed are again poised to wreck the cosmos with their payload. To quote the band, "Your beard will grow several inches with one listen (same goes for you ladies). The stuff is munificent, car-crushing and concentrated toward the task at hand –  that is to conquer nations, salt their fields and mock the lamentations of their weak."

For fans of Solace, Iota, Greatdayforup, Milligram, and Roadsaw.
